I used to play a few fast-twitch style games when I was younger, such as Counter-Strike and a couple of the Battlefield titles. But truth be told, I’ve always preferred slower-paced stealth games such as the ones in the Metal Gear and Splinter Cell franchises, to the aforementioned genre.
When I did play the faster-paced shooters, I knew that I’d be running up against kids that could hip-snipe me from 1,000 yards away and put me away with one oddly accurate headshot. To mitigate that, I’d routinely utilize an unusually patient and tactical playstyle. Knowing that my young human adversaries couldn’t sit still for long and possessed minuscule attention spans at best, I’d often come out on top.
Corruption 2029 is one of the types of games that appeal to me. It requires an absurd amount of patience and planning. Fortunately, you won’t have to put up with any 11-year-olds bunnyhopping around and head-shotting you from the hip. However, you will have to deal with AI adversaries that always have you outgunned and outnumbered.
In Corruption 2029, you play as three elite members of the UPA (United Peoples of America). The setting is a near-future North America that has been decimated by a second civil war. When the game starts, you learn that your small squad, who was traveling in a drop pod, has been shot out of the sky and crashlands behind enemy lines. You must survive with whatever meager resources you have or can find while making your way through hostile territory.
Game mechanics-wise, Corruption 2029 feels very much like a Splinter Cell title since you’ll constantly be sneaking around in real-time. Map exploration is a big part of a typical mission because you’ll want to get a lay of the land before initiating any contact with your enemies. When you do spot them, it’s also wise to study their patrol patterns in order to see where their placement will be for optimal ambush tactics.
Combat begins once an enemy happens to spot you or once you take your first shot at them. When this happens, the game switches into its turn-based mode, so in this way, it’s reminiscent of Divinity: Original Sin 2’s combination of real-time exploration mixed with turn-based tactical combat.
Stealth is a huge part of Corruption 2029 because you’ll most likely die if you go in Rambo-style; the enemy is simply too numerous and have superior firepower when compared to your 3-man squad. Therefore, utilizing silenced weapons to quietly take down isolated enemies is the way to go. If a single adversary survives your initial assault, they’ll radio their comrades and you’ll soon find yourself in a world of hurt.
As you proceed through the game and rack up successful missions, you’ll be given access to additional types of weapons and abilities that can alter the way you approach them. However, due to how strong your enemies are, you’ll always want to maneuver your squad into locations that are optimal for synergistically taking them out in the most efficient manner possible.
Because missions in Corruption 2029 are so challenging, when you do manage to pull off a successful ambush or flaking maneuver, you’ll feel a sense of elation (and relief) that can only be experienced when you’re going up against superior forces. In other words, through shrewd tactical planning and patience, David can (and ofter will) defeat Goliath.
Gamers who don’t possess a lot of patience or who aren’t that good at tactical planning, probably won’t like Corruption 2029 that much. But people who are into creeping around in the shadows, waiting for the perfect time to strike, will definitely get an adrenaline rush when they snatch victory from the jaws of defeat during the game’s numerous, incredibly difficult missions.

Corruption 2029 has some pretty good looking graphics that make its stealth gameplay truly shine. However, you want to have a pretty beefy gaming PC or gaming laptop in order to play it at a decent framerate. So, you may just want to invest in a decent gaming rig:
