The spiritual successor to Castlevania, Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night is confirmed to be released this coming June.

According to its creator Koji Igarashi, the game will be released on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and gaming PC on June 18. Its Nintendo Switch release, on the other hand, is scheduled on June 25.

The newest title from Igarashi started as a Kickstarter project in 2015, which raised over $5 million. The game was initially scheduled for 2017 but was delayed into 2019 to further develop its quality. It was then followed with an announcement that the game’s PS Vita version was canceled.

In an announcement video released by Igarashi, he answered several issues from fans involving the previous footage of the game. To prove how much the game has improved since then, Igarashi showed a few clips for fans and critics alike.

Ritual of the Night takes place in 18th century England. The story revolves around the protagonist Miriam, who was an orphan taken by an Alchemist guild and was subjected to different experiments. One of these alchemist tests caused her body to crystallize as a result of the transplanting of magi-crystals.

The game takes place ten years after Miriam went into a deep coma. She was awakened to find her condition temporarily halted by Johannes, an alchemist who was fighting against the guild’s act to summon demons. He explained that a man named Gebel, another one of the alchemists’ experiments, lost his humanity and summons demons to change the world. To stop him, Miriam will have to defeat him to save humanity and also find a cure for herself.

Ritual of the Night is a 2D side-scrolling action RPG with Metroidvania-style gameplay, 3D graphics. Working alongside Koji Igarashi are Michiru Yamana of Castlevania: Symphony of the Night and Ippo Yamada from Resident Evil. It also features a classic Igavania gameplay.
