Publisher Ubisoft finally reveals the newest entry in the Assassin’s Creed series, Odyssey. And we must admit it, the company did a pretty good job, hiding the game’s development for the past months. If it weren’t for the leaked picture of the Odyssey’s merchandise keychain, fans wouldn’t even have an idea that a new Assassin’s Creed game was on the way.

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey officially revealed during the E3 Conference. It was developed by Ubisoft Québec, the same team that worked with Assassin’s Creed Syndicate which was released in 2015.

According to Ubisoft, Odyssey is set in 431 BC, years before the events of Origins. The player takes control of either Alexios or Kassandra, a child who was born during the Peloponnesian War in Greece. Due to a prophecy foretold by the Oracle of Delphi, the protagonist is cast out of their Spartan family as a child, which was revealed in the trailer when their father Nikolas knocked the child off a cliff. Alexios/Kassandra will eventually return to Greece as an adult and mercenary.

Unlike Syndicate, wherein the player can switch controlling the siblings, Evie and Jacob Fyre, in Odyssey Alexios and Kassandra are on equal footing. This means that there will be slight variations in the story, depending which character the players choose. Ubisoft also explained that players can lie and deceive their enemies and allies, as well as building a romantic relationship with them, which is a first in the series.

“At one point we were telling people ‘Your choice had an impact,’ but I feel like when we give players too much information, it destroys their immersion,” Odyssey’s Senior Producer Marc-Alexis Côté. “They now try to look for the algorithms, that will make them achieve a certain end, and we’ve worked very hard to make the choices feel more grey.”

Odyssey will also bring in three separate skill trees that players can unlock including warrior for physical combat, an assassin for stealth, and hunter for ranged combat abilities. The game will also include naval battle and exploration similar to Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag.

Ubisoft confirmed that Assassin’s Creed Odyssey is scheduled to be released on October 5 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Windows gaming PC.
