Ninja Gaiden 4 brings the long time action franchise in to the modern era while staying true to what made it legendary: lightning-fast combat, punishing difficulty, and precise gameplay that rewards your skill.
This new iteration sees a collaborative effort between Team Ninja and Platinum games (Bayonetta, Metal Gear Rising, Nier Automata) come to fruition. Reviewers are noting that the gameplay is at it’s sharpest it has every been, although the story and new playable character fall a bit flat. But that’s not what most people are here for anyway!
Across a 10-ish hour campaign you will take control of two characters including newcomer Yakumo and the iconic Ryu Hyabusa. Both have similar movesets ( including the iconic and powerful Izuna Drop), but Yakumo gives you some new toys to play with with his Bloodraven form. By holding down the left trigger while performing your usual attacks, Yakumo transforms his weapon into a larger slower hitting form that is used to break enemy guards or interrupt their own super attacks, adding an interesting wrinkle to the usual flow of combat.
Early previews praise Ninja Gaiden 4 for it’s excellent combat and high octane action, but most note some bland level design and boring story. But if you are in the mood for an action game, Ninja Gaiden 4 provides some of the best gameplay you can find.
