What the hell is going on with memory and SSD prices?

If you keep up with the news in the PC world, or just the news in general, you may have noticed that PC memory prices have spiked. A lot. So far it has mainly affected RAM prices, however SSD prices are expected to go up as well.

The prices have gone up due to memory maker’s focusing on meeting AI demand. The construction of new data centers for AI purposes has contributed to the memory shortage. From a supply perspective, the main manufacturers of consumer DRAM are prioritizing their manufacturing on HBM (high bandwidth memory). The result is less of their product available on the market for average consumers.

With less available supply, the prices of everything goes up. It sucks, but DRAM pricing has always been cyclical with pricing being drastically effected by manufacturing demands.

As a result, some of our builds may increase in price, as our cost goes up to. We are doing everything we can to still offer the best prices we can and the effect is industry wide.

With the hot news out of the way, let’s take a look at some times you should consider purchasing a gaming PC.

After New Hardware Releases

Often times prices will be at their best right after the newest hardware releases. Inventory of now older models needs to move, so you can usually find great deals on now year old hardware right after a major release, such as a new processor generation from Intel or AMD, or new GeForce or Radeon graphics cards. This applies to both our custom and prebuilt gaming PCs, as well as the prices of the components themselves (say, if you were looking to snag a graphics card upgrade for your build).

The new stuff for 2025 has come out. However, 2026, and new hardware is on the horizon. Be on the lookout for new hardware announcements, especially around CES (Consumer Electronics Show) time in early January.

Black Friday / Cyber Monday

Black Friday and Cyber (Power) Monday really need no introduction. This is usually the best time to buy anything, especially a gaming PC.

Save big with deals on our gaming PCs, directly from us or from our retailer websites!

The Beginning of a New Year

A new year means leftover inventory from the holiday season. These PCs need to find a home, so deals will pop up in January that will allow you to save some moolah if you missed out on any Black Friday or Holiday deals.

As mentioned a few paragraphs above, with the new year usually comes new hardware. This means deals on the previous generation hardware will begin rolling out!

Holiday Weekends

Holiday weekends are a reliable time to snag some deals. Sales usually pop up here, both directly on our website and at retailers like Best Buy, Amazon, and Costco.

Black Friday is just around the corner, so expect some great deals from us on our website and at any of our retailers. We have our early Black Friday deals going on right now, check those out if you are trying to get your holiday shopping in early.

Prime Day (and Other Retailer’s “Totally Not Prime Days”)

Prime Day is also an excellent time to buy a gaming PC. Amazon typically has this in July, so you can expect plenty of deals around then. Usually other retailers will have their own sales during this time to compete with Amazon, so you should have plenty of shopping options and deals to choose from.

Amazon Prime Day 2025 has came and went, so you’ll have to wait until 2026’s iteration. Amazon also sometimes has other deal days throughout the year, such as Prime Big Deal Days back in October.

Try as you may, the unfortunate reality with any tech is that new stuff is already on the way. A PC that’s top of the line on the day you bought it might be not the top dawg anymore just a few months later. That doesn’t make it a pile of scrap suddenly that can’t play your favorite games, just something to keep in mind with tech.

The good news is that this constant evolution of hardware can be used in your favor. As new hardware releases, the price of (now) previous generation hardware gets better. You can use this reality to score some great deals if you are willing to forego the latest and greatest. Now you know a few options for the best time to buy a gaming PC!

Throughout the year, you will have plenty of opportunities to score an awesome gaming PC at a great price. Follow our social media, check out our website regularly, and explore deals on our gaming PCs at retailers like Best Buy and Amazon.
