Ubisoft Confirms New Assassin’s Creed Game Set in Greece

The next Assassin’s Creed game has just been confirmed by Ubisoft after a leak surfaced online. A short video was posted in the Assassin’s Creed official Twitter, confirming the game’s name and its appearance at E3 2018.

The leak started after the French video game site, JeuxVideoLive posted an image of what seems to be the official merchandise of the upcoming game with the title “Assassin’s Creed Odyssey.”

According to Kotaku, Odyssey will be the next installment in the series and will be the sequel to last year’s Origins. The sources also confirmed that the game will take place in ancient Green, thus with the Greek helmet keychain merchandise. It was also said that Odyssey is scheduled to be released before the end of Ubisoft’s fiscal year 2019, which ends on March 31 next year.

Rumors about the new Assassin’s Creed game have been circulating for months, including that the fact it is set in Greece. It was also reported that the new game will take a drastic departure from the series. It will also be the first game in the franchise to bring dialogue options. Players will be able to play either as a male or a female character, introducing new heroes to the series.

The last game released under the Assassin’s Creed franchise was Origins. It was developed by Ubisoft Montreal and was released for PlayStation 4, XBox One, Microsoft Windows PCs, and gaming laptops last October 2017. The game explores the origins of the centuries-long conflict between The Order of the Ancients and The Brotherhood of Assassins. It is set in Egypt near the end of the Ptolemaic period and recounts the secret fictional history of real-world events. It also introduced a new protagonist named Bayek, a Medjay who works to protect the people of the Ptolemaic Kingdom.

Origins have received generally favorable reviews from the critics. It was praised for its story, characters, reworked gameplay-systems and for its immersive depiction of Egypt. While it was criticized for its game pacing and technical issues. Still, the game has reached more than $800 million sales as reported during the last quarter of 2017.
