The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition Will Be Free for All PC Owners

The Elder Scrolls V - Skyrim

Before the E3 2016 conference, there were rumors that Bethesda is going to reveal a remaster of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. As expected, Bethesda confirmed the rumors and announced the release of Skyrim Definitive Edition. Set for release on October 28, the remastered version of the game is going to be free for all PC owners.

According to Bethesda, if you own the PC version of Skyrim (with all its add-ons), you’ll get a free upgrade to Skyrim Special Edition. The special update will feature a dynamic depth of field and more remastered art and effects. It seems that the upcoming game is even more realistic than the former and would look even better on a 4k gaming PC.

Unfortunately, console users won’t be able to access the remastered version for free. According to Amazon, the Skyrim Special Edition for PS4 and Xbox One will cost around $60. The game will come with full mod support, three DLC expansions, and of course, a complete graphical upgrade.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim was first released on 2011, and was the fifth installment in the Elder Scroll series. The team focuses on the main player’s POV as he tries to defeat the Alduin the World Eater, a dragon meant to bring destruction to the world. The game is set two hundred years after the events that took place on Oblivion. It has sold more than 20 million copies worldwide making it one of the most popular video games of all time.
