Outlast

Outlast is the epitome of survival horror video game. The game doesn’t allow the player to fight back or use any weapon, the only thing you can do to survive is to run and hide from the monsters that lurk in the dark. It follows the story of investigative journalist Miles Upshur as he explores the mysterious Mount Massive Asylum, a place that hides something terrifying. Outlast became so popular that it spawned a sequel titled Outlast 2.

Resident Evil 7

Resident Evil 7 is the first video game in the popular Resident Evil series to feature a first-person perspective. It introduces us to the character named Ethan Winters as he searches for his wife Mia, leading him to an abandoned plantation owned by the Baker Family. Little did he know that the family has already been infested and controlled by a genetically-modified human girl by the name of Eveline, who hides as a family member.

The Evil Within is a psychological horror game developed by Japanese video game director and producer Shinji Mikami. The game itself embodies the meaning of pure survival horror by introducing a highly-crafted environment, an intricate story, and inducing horrifying anxiety. It tells the story of Detective Sebastian Castellanos as he embarks on a journey inside the world of the STEM, a deranged world where hideous creatures wander among the dead.

Silent Hill P.T.

Silent Hill P.T. is an unfinished first-person psychological horror game from Kojima Productions. The game was designed by Hideo Kojima himself with the help of film director Guillermo Del Toro. It centers on the story of an unknown character who wakes up in a haunted suburban house filled with supernatural occurrences.  He explores the room and becomes acquainted with the ghostly entities that haunt the house including the spirit named Lisa.

Amnesia: The Dark Descent is a survival horror video game for Mac OS X, Linux, and Microsoft Windows PCs and gaming laptops. The game puts you in place of Daniel who wakes up in a desolate castle without any memory from his past. As he explores the hallways of the castle, he soon discovers the horrors that lie underneath it. Your only means of defense is by hiding, running away, or using your wits to escape the monsters.

Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly

Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly is a Japanese survival horror game and the second game in the Fatal Frame series. It also became the most popular video game in the series due to its amazing plotline, eerie environment, and multiple endings. The game introduces the story of twin sisters Mio and Mayu Akamura which stumbles upon an abandoned village, full of mysteries, haunted by malevolent spirits, and suffers from an ancient curse that requires twins as a sacrifice.
