Gigantic, the strategic hero shooter video game, is shutting down as Motiga confirms.

On February 1, Motiga announced on their official site that the game’s servers will be discontinued on July 31, 2018. The developer also confirmed that the January Update will be the game’s last. Until then, all heroes will be free-to-play, and purchase of Rubies and Hero Packs have been disabled.

According to the announcement, discontinuing Gigantic was not an easy decision from the studio. Although the game gave a unique and exciting experience for gamers, it wasn’t able to resonate with as many players as they’d hoped for. Motiga also explained that over the last several months, they did try their best to look into viable options to sustain the game. However, the current state of the game restricted the options for the game’s further progress and relevant content updates. Motiga also shared the difficulties they faced with delivering the game’s basic features and fixing long-standing issues. Despite their best efforts, the team was unable to find the solution that would help Gigantic to break through in the competitive market.

Gigantic’s development started four years ago when Motiga received $20 million in funding. But since then the studio has been subject to multiple redundancies. The latest is in November 2017 as its publisher Perfect World announced that the studio laid off most of the team working on the game. Gigantic has then been running with only a skeleton crew to maintain and update, further leading to its end.

The game was also originally due to be published by Microsoft, but that deal seemed to fall through after the number of layoffs at Motiga ahead of its launch. Perfect World, later on, assumed the publishing duties and acquired Motiga. Gigantic was then finally released in July 2017 for Xbox One and Microsoft  PCs and gaming laptops.

If you want to get some last matches before the game’s servers officially shut down, you can download and play the game from Steam, Microsoft Store, and Xbox Store.
