2018 may actually be the year for zombie-survival video games. With upcoming titles such as Overkill’s The Walking Dead and State of Decay 2, fans of the zombie and post-apocalyptic genre are in for the treat of their lives.
Here are five of the highly anticipated zombie games to be released this year:
Overkill’s The Walking Dead

Overkill’s The Walking Dead is one of the most anticipated horror-survival game since its trailer was released last December. It is a four-player co-op action FPS, where the player must fight the dead and the living to survive a post-apocalyptic world set in Robert Kirkman’s The Walking Dead universe. The game has been in development for four years and will feature brand new storylines, characters, and enemies. It is scheduled to be released in fall of this year for Microsoft Windows PCs, XBox One, and PlayStation 4 consoles.
Telltale’s The Walking Dead

Telltale did an excellent job with The Walking Dead game. They have released three complete series during the last few years, following the story of Clementine, a young orphan girl living alone in an apocalyptic world. Telltale will soon release the fourth and final season this year, which will continue Clementine’s story as she continues to fight for her survival.
Days Gone

Days Gone is an upcoming action-adventure game from SIE Bend Studio and Sony Interactive Entertainment. It is said to feature a massive post-apocalyptic open world where the player must survive and fight against hordes of zombies called “freakers.” The player takes the role of Deacon St. John, a former bounty hunter who prefers life on the road to wilderness encampments. To survive, he must scavenge, craft, and do his best to outrun the fast-evolving freakers. The game is set to be released in the last quarter of the year.
State of Decay 2

State of Decay 2 is the highly anticipated sequel to the 2013 video game, State of Decay. This zombie-survival game requires you and three other players to fight and survive the zombie apocalypse. Aside from shooting zombies, players must scavenge for supplies to survive and teamwork to stay alive. It is said to feature three new maps, all with the same size with the original game. Its developers, Undead Labs, also stated that the game is massive compared to its predecessor. The game is said to be launched on May 25 for XBox One and Microsoft Windows PCs and gaming laptops.
World War Z

World War Z is a four co-op shooting game developed by Saber Interactive, the same studio that worked with Inversion and Timeshift. The game is said to have a striking resemblance to the movie, featuring unstoppable hordes of zombies. The campaign will focus on unique survivor stories and will take the players on missions around the globe including New York, Jerusalem, and Moscow. Saber Interactive confirmed that the game will launch for PlayStation 4, Windows PC, and XBox One this year.
