Some people love RPGs, others FPS, while there are some who prefer simulation games. Currently, management simulation games are becoming a rage especially with the release of RimWorld. That’s why for today, we decided to showcase a list of 5 colony-simulation games that you will definitely love to include in your gaming library. Let’s check them out!

RimWorld

RimWorld is a well-acclaimed indie simulation and management game from Ludeon Studios. It is described as a “sci-fi colony sim” which is driven by an intelligent AI storyteller. Greatly inspired by the best sci-fi works such as Firefly, Dune, and Fortress, the RimWorld allows the player to manage three survivors stuck at the rim of an unknown space. The player must then be able to build his own colony through these starting characters by building structures, providing their needs, and cultivating the environment around them to sustain other necessities.

Clockwork Empires

Clockwork Empires is a strategy and simulation game created by Gaslamp Games, Inc. It is a colony building game greatly inspired by a Steampunk frontier with elements of cosmic horror. The player takes control of Colonial Bureaucrat tasked to build a thriving Frontier Colony which is populated with AI characters. As the leader, your role is to ensure the success of the colony and fill it with large factories run by the power of steam, while altogether protecting them from cosmic horrors that can push them to their limit and make them start doing terrible things such as murder, cannibalism, or occultism.

Stardew Valley

Stardew Valley is more than you average farming game. This Indie, RPG, and simulation game has been receiving great reviews for its unique plotline, teamed up with its interesting core mechanics and 2D pixelated graphics. In this game, you start as the main character who have just inherited your grandfather’s old farm plot in a place known as Stardew Valley. Your primary goal is to be able to turn the farm into a thriving home and restore Stardew Valley its greatness. Stardew Valley is an open-ended game where you’re free to do anything you like: explore, farm, mine, fight, and even marry. Interact with over 30 of the existing character and be part of its local community.

Gnomoria

Gnomoria features a sandbox village management game where the player is tasked to help a small group of gnomes. Assist them to build their own kingdom as they set out on their own. To do this, you must craft items, build structures and dig deep underground to search for resources to help the gnomes survive the harsh environment around them. You must also learn to stock resources and wealth to attract gnomads but beware though because it might attract enemies as well. The game is developed and published by Robotronic Games.

Dwarf Fortress

Dwarf Fortress is an old but classic game which was released on 2008. The game has inspired several games including RimWorld. It’s one of the early hybrid games which combines the element of construction and management simulation game with roguelike elements. It is set in a procedurally generated fantasy world where the player takes control of dwarves and helps them build a strong underground fortress. The game was so well-acclaimed that is featured in the Museum of Modern Art and was included in the history of video gaming in 2012.
