The developer behind the Metro series is confirmed to be currently working on a new Metro game and new AAA IP. The announcement came after the news that the game’s developer studio has been acquired by THQ Nordic’s holding company, Embracer Group, for $80 million.

Embracer Group has picked up 4A Games, its proprietary game engine, and the Metro IP. The Ukraine-based company will now run and operate as an independent studio under Saber Interactive.

4A Games CEO Dean Sharp has released a statement for their plans after their studio’s acquisition. According to him, their team will continue to build the Metro franchise. They will also focus on bringing a multiplayer experience to their fanbase. Sharpe added that the team is looking forward to building a new and even more ambitious AAA IP soon.

4A Games also confirms that they will be working with Saber Interactive collaboratively on an entirely new project which combines the AAA production values of 4A games. According to 4A, this will be made possible with the combined engine and technology know-how and Saber’s experience on multiplayer and live-operations.

This means that 4A Games is working on two new projects right now, the new Metro project in collaboration with Saber Interactive that may feature multiplayer, and the new AAA IP.

Aside from 4A Games, Embracer Group has also acquired several studios including Sola Media, Palindrome Interactive, Pow Wow Entertainment, Deca Games, Rare Earth Games, Vermila Studios, and New World Interactive.

This most recent acquisition spree marks an important milestone for the relationship between 4A Games and Koch Media/Deep Silver, the publishing arm of the Metro series owned by Embracer Group.

In other news, Embracer also confirmed that their holding companies have 69 unannounced games as of the moment, which includes gaming PC video games.
