After a dominating win over Lightning Pandas last night, OpTic Gaming are the last champions of the WWII Call of Duty World League Pro Challenge.
In their path towards the championship, OpTic first had to get past compLexity, a roster composed of Brandon “Dashy” Otell, Doug “Censor” Martin, Richard “Ricky” Stacy, and Rasim “Blazt” Ogresevic. Though OpTic dropped the first map — Sainte Marie Du Mont Hardpoint — with a losing score of 250-183, they bounced back, taking USS Texas Search and Destroy 6-2. With momentum on their side, OpTic continued to play well, winning Flak Tower Capture the Flag 4-2 and battling through a tough Ardennes Forest Hardpoint to come out on top 250-190, winning the overall series 3-1.
With a win over compLexity secured, OpTic then moved onto the grand finals against the best team in Canada: Lightning Pandas, which consists of Jevon “Goonjar” Gooljar-Lim, Matthew “Royalty” Faithfull, John “Xotic” Bruno, and Dylan “Theory” McGee.
Game 1 (Gibraltar Hardpoint) was a tight one, with the game being tied at 192 a piece with 2:30 left in the game. But then OpTic went on a massive run on the Fort Courtyard hill, getting over 40 points on it to eventually take the game, 250-193. Though the slaying for OpTic was relatively even with that of Lightning Pandas’, OpTic’s Anthony “Methodz” Zinni had a massive 1:53 of hill time, leading his OpTic team in terms of objective.
Next up was London Docks Search and Destroy, a game OpTic dominated from the very start. OpTic jumped out to a 3-0 lead, and then continued to press the pace and win the game 6-1. Crimsix had an absolutely monster game, leading all players in the lobby at an incredible 11-3.
The last game was Ardennes Forest Capture the Flag, one of OpTic’s stronger maps. And so the result wasn’t surprising. OpTic came out guns blazing, winning 2-0. Seth “Scump” Abner, who had been struggling previously in the other games, finally had a breakout performance, finishing 23-13, while Methodz led the team with 2 flag caps.
Having won in the Grand Finals, OpTic secured themselves a $1500 first place prize, but what’s more important is that the win may give OpTic the momentum they need to finish off Stage 2 of CWL Pro League strong. They’ll need everything they can get today, where they’ll face off against top team Rise Nation.
