It all started when a picture of an Xbox/PlayStation couple chatting in a gaming event went viral on social media with the caption, “If these two can make it work, there’s hope for us all”. And it didn’t take too long for Xbox official twitter account to take notice of it which proceeded to them tweeting a charming image of the couple in rad graphics showing Xbox trademark style and green brand uniform. They even went as far as to hashtag #playstation into the tweet, and gave the image the caption: “Achievement Unlocked: Love Knows No Console”.

This all happened a month ago, and everyone back then hoped that the tweet will finally paved the way for the two consoles to work out with each other. Well wait no more for Microsoft has finally enabled their developers to support cross-network play on its Xbox Live network, thus allowing Xbox, Playstation and PC gamers to play with each other for the first time via multi-player online networks.

According to Chris Charla, head of Microsoft’s ID@Xbox program on a blog post he posted on March 14: “We’re enabling developers to support cross-network play as well. This means players on Xbox One and Windows 10 using Xbox Live will be able to play with players on different online multiplayer networks – including other console and PC networks.”

Although Chris also mentioned that it is up to Xbox developers to support the feature and it is up to Xbox live players to choose if they only want to play with other Xbox Live players. He also confirmed that Psyonix’s Rocket League will be one of the first games to allow this new capability and enable cross-network play between Xbox One and gaming PC players, featuring an open invitation for other networks to participate in the game.

This action will allow all gamers to play with each other freely whatever consoles they are using or if they’re playing on PC. This offers up a new opportunity for gamers to have a wider multiplayer online world to meet other people.
