It is official, the announced 2019 Call of Duty game will be a reboot of the classic Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (2007). The game is called Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. And as developer Infinity Ward and publisher Activision have confirmed it, this new game will be a reboot, not a sequel, a remastered version, or a remake.

According to its developers, the new Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will feature a new single-player campaign that was described as “ripped from the headlines.” It will also include a series of PvP multiplayer modes and an all-new cooperative play mode that features a collection of strategic co-op missions.

Again, Activision significantly implied that the upcoming video game was a reboot. As the original Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare 2007 game already received a remaster in 2016 titled Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered. So this new game, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will be a new and completely different game.

The reboot game is set to be released this coming October 25 for Microsoft Windows gaming PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4. It was also announced to feature cross-play, but will not include any season pass.

The developers also explained that the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare reboot is currently being developed using a brand new engine. It will be different from the previous COD games and was described as a “real passion project” game for the studio. The game will also return to its realistic root and will pivot away from the futuristic sci-fi genre. This is to provide players with a more authentic military simulation.

Activision also confirmed that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will be optimized for gaming PC and will be available through Blizzard Battle.net.
