After a long time of waiting, Gearbox Software finally confirmed the development of the long-awaited sequel, Borderlands 3.

The announcement came during PAX East 2019 as Randy Pitchford, and Paul Sage talked about the anticipated Borderlands sequel. Alongside the confirmation, Gearbox and 2K released a teaser trailer in 4K, and some details about the characters, powers, and featured locations of the upcoming sequel.

In the trailer, some of the new and returning characters for Borderlands 3 were featured, including the new villains and the Vault Hunters. Some of these characters include Tiny Tina from Borderlands 2, Aurelia from the Pre-Sequel, and Vaughn from the Tales from Borderlands. A new Vault Hunter was also introduced which goes by the name Amara.

Aside from the characters, Randy Pitchford also answered some of the speculations that Borderlands 3 will feature a battle-royale mode. According to him, although battle-royale games are fun and are currently trending in the market, Borderlands 3 will not be developed in the same way. That’s a relief especially to the fans who have loved the game for exactly what it is.

Borderlands was first released in 2009 as an open-world action, a first-person shooter video game with role-playing elements. It was developed by Gearbox Software and published by 2K Games for Microsoft Windows gaming PC, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Mac OS X, and Shield Android TV.

The game introduced us to a group of four Vault Hunters, who traveled to a distant planet called Pandora with a mission to hunt down an alien vault that is said to contain an advanced alien technology.

Borderlands was such as success that a sequel was immediately released in 2012. And with the development of the third game, fans couldn’t help but get excited about what the next game will be about.
