Dragon Age 4: The Dread Wolf Rises was first teased at The Game Awards 2018, alongside a blog post that was published by Bioware. Little did we know that the game went into a long haul before it was actually developed into a full game.

According to reports, the fourth entry into the Dragon Age series was actually rebooted in 2017 and was influenced by a canceled Dragon Age project that Bioware has been working on since 2015.

In an article posted by Kotaku, Dragon Age 4 is said to be developed under the codename Morrison while the other canceled project was called Joplin. Morrison is said to be currently being developed to have a live service component so it could sustain more extended gameplay. The said project is also now using tools and codebase from Bioware’s other game, Anthem. Rumors are circulating that the game was designed for a single-player experience with a multiplayer component which includes a companion that players will be able to control.

Project Joplin, on the other hand, is said to have no multiplayer components and is reportedly focused on choice and consequences in a system mechanic narrative. It also features a repeat play, with areas changing over time and the missions branching out depending on the player’s choices. However, the project didn’t continue and was put on hold after the team was moved to work on Mass Effect: Andromeda. It was then canceled in 2017, with most of its staff moving to help with Anthem’s development.

Although the Morrison was said to have started from scratch, some noted that Joplin had widely influenced the game’s development. If so, then Dragon Age 4: The Dread Wolf Rises was apparently based on the canceled Joplin project.

In the meantime, there are still no details as to when Dragon Age 4 will be released, but we’re sure that the game will be published for Microsoft Windows gaming PC, as well as the Xbox One, and PlayStation 4 console similar to its predecessor, Dragon Age: Inquisition.
