Atom RPG: Trudograd

Isometric, Post-apocalyptic games used to be much more popular in the past. Throughout the 90s on up to the early 2000s, gamers were blessed with all manner of games within the genre, some good…and some not so good. Although this genre has ebbed in recent years, it seems to have been making a comeback as of late, with titles such as Encased and Atom RPG garnering their own rabid fan bases.
Atom RPG, by Russian developers AtomTeam, is a particularly retro-style game that captured the attention gamers who love cRPGs, when it debuted back in 2018. What’s so cool is that AtomTeam is unabashed in their appreciation of cRPGs such as Wasteland, Fallout, and Baldur’s Gate. Atom RPG was one of the more intricately designed isometric, post-apocalyptic games that I’ve ever played, and many gamers out there share my sentiments.
Not one to rest on their laurels, AtomTeam is back at it again with their stand-alone, follow-up to that first game titled: Atom RPG: Trudograd. Here are a few details about the game from the developers:

Early Access will receive big updates every few months.”

One of the things that I should mention is that with many games, especially any type of RPG, the game world itself has to sell you on its sense of atmosphere. The first game, Atom RPG, had that in spades.
The post-apocalyptic world it painted had all sorts of zany characters with their own unique personalities, and each of them was very interactive as well. The environments themselves looked broken down and desolate but the occupied areas looked decrepit as well, yet lived-in.
Trudograd looks to take all of those elements to the next level with its new, enhanced graphics, which allow for an even greater degree of immersion. Check out the game’s trailer to see what I mean:
Not only do the visuals and atmosphere look promising, but the backstory seems to be coming along nicely as well. The game is set in 1986—both the Soviet Union and the Western Bloc were destroyed in mutual nuclear bombings.
As a single-player experience, you’ll play as one of the survivors of this nuclear holocaust. Your mission is to explore the “wild and wondrous world” of this desolate Soviet Wasteland. The overarching backstory involves having to investigate a shadowy conspiracy aimed at destroying all that is left of life on Earth.
Atom RPG: Trudograd looks very promising and I’ll be back after the game’s May 11th launch to render my full review.
Atom RPG: Trudograd has some pretty good looking graphics that make its post-apocalyptic gameplay truly shine. However, you want to have a pretty beefy gaming PC or gaming laptop in order to play it at a decent framerate. So, you may just want to invest in a decent gaming rig:
