The Eight Nations that Built League of Legends

One thing to love about League of Legends aside from its diverse roster of champions is it broad and colorful lore that tackles engaging tales about its world. And for today, we’re going to know more about Valora, the place where the game exists. We’re going learn more about the eight nations that created the organization of League of Legends to mediate the political conflicts of Valoran.

Let’s check them out:

Bandle City

The Bandle City is the land where Yordles are found and dwell, a race mammalian bipedal sentient with feline-like characteristics. According to legends, the Yordles were a nomadic race that travels around the continent for many years before settling within the Ruddynip Valley, which is now known as the modern day Bandle City. Known champions from Bandle City include Lulu, Rumble, Kled, Teemo, Tristana, and Poppy.

Bilgewater

Bilgewater is an island nation located on the southeastern coast of Valoran. Over time, it has become a vital stop for trade ships that travel near Blue Flame Islands. For many, it is a city of new beginnings, free from the shackles of government and moral constraints, making it a haven for smugglers and marauders. It is filled with dangerous people who strive to survive the tides of fortune. Champions like Miss Fortune, Gangplank, Graves, Illao and Tahm Kench came from this place.

Demacia

The Kingdom of Demacia is the largest city in Valoran, ruled by the Royal Family of Lightshield, the lineage of Prince Jarvan IV. Many see the city as a shining beacon for humanity. It values the ideals of justice, honor, and duty. Its citizens are fiercely proud of its just society and prestigious military history. It is a city gleamed with power, led by the noble houses of Crownguard, Laurent, Buvelle, and Vayne; noble houses where champions like Garen, Lux, Sona, Vayne, and Fiora came from.

Freljord

Freljord is a harsh and unforgiving land of frost and ice, ruled by three distinct tribes in a civil war, fighting for the throne. The Avarosan is the largest tribe led by Queen Ashe who dreams of a united and peaceful Freljord. The second tribe is the Winter’s Claw, a barbarian-like tribe led by Sejuani who wishes to conquer Freljord through brute strength, and believes that it is only through war that the people can redeem themselves. The third is the Frostguard, which hides beneath the deep ruins of the ancient Frejlord and obey their ruler, the Ice Witch Lissandra.

Ionia

Ionia is the majestic land of unspoiled beauty and natural magic. Its inhabitants are spiritual people who seek to live in harmony and bring balance to the world. For years, they have remained neutral in the wars that ravaged Valoran until they were invaded by Noxus. The brutal conflict forced Ionia to reveal their magical power to the world, showing their real capacity to protect their beloved city. Until this day, Ionia continues to be a haven for beings who seek spiritual enlightenment. Varus, Zed, Syndra, Yasuo, Lee Sin, and Jhin are some of the champions that came from Ionia.

Noxus

Noxus is a powerful empire that has a fearsome reputation. Its people are known to be brutal and fierce, valuing strength above all. Its government believes that anyone can rise to a position of power regardless their social standing or background as long as they display the necessary aptitude of a true Noxian warrior. For years, the city of Noxus stands behind the principle that “only the strong shall survive” and that compassion or benevolence are only signs of weakness. Noxian champions include Katarina, Darius, Sion, Cassiopeia, and Draven.

Piltover

Piltover is the Valoran’s City of Progress, the center of ecologically-minded techmaturgical research, where art, craftsmanship, trade, and innovation walk hand in hand together. This is the city that continues to reinvent itself, offering opportunities for people, a place where fortunes can be made. It is also a place where the best inventors and craftsmen can be found, delving themselves into hex tech developments. Champions like Ezreal, Jayce, Jinx, Vi, and Caitlyn all came from this place.

Zaun

Zaun is the large and under-city district that lies in the deep canyons and valleys of Piltover. According to the stories, Zaun and Piltover were once united but is now separated. However, they are still symbiotic societies, co-existing with each other. Unlike Piltover, Zaun is ruined by unchecked industry and mercantilism, where magic run amok. Due to the city’s characteristics, it was called the City of Iron and Glass. It is where mutants, chemist, and machines live, the place where champions such as Blitzcrank, Twitch, Ekko, and Dr. Mundo can be found.
