Achilles: Legends Untold – Which Skills to Start With

I’ve played a ton of top-down isometric CRPGs (computer role-playing games) in my gaming years, whether they be of the more traditional “Diablo-style” games or ones that take place in alternative settings. By traditional, I mean settings that include lots of the familiar fantasy tropes we’re all used to by now. You know, orcs, dragons, etc.

In that vein, I’ve always wondered why there were hardly any isometric games that were set in the Ancient Greek times. After all, that era was so packed with mythos and lore. Besides the Titan Quest series, I can’t recall any other games that focused on that setting.

That is until I came across Achilles: Legends Untold just recently. Although it’s a fun top-down action RPG, it can be a little hard as far as difficulty is concerned, especially in the beginning. So, we’re here to show you the best skills to have when you first start out. Simply put, the best skills to get first in Achilles: Legends Untold will be determined by how players want to build their character for their playstyle.

In this game, players will likely want to invest in the best skills that are based on their playstyle. Achilles: Legends Untold is an action-adventure game that has RPG and Soulslike elements, allowing players to earn an XP equivalent to upgrade their skills. Despite the game’s limited crafting system, Achilles: Legends Untold has a skill-upgrade system that is somewhat akin to the constellations that many fans of Skyrim are familiar with. Overall, the more skills players learn, the better they’ll be able to fight against hordes of enemies and bosses.

Each and every time players defeat an enemy in Achilles: Legends Untold, they’ll receive a currency called Fate. Similar to runes and leveling-up in Elden Ring, Fate is the XP equivalent for Achilles: Legends Untold, but it’s used in armor and weapon upgrades as well in large amounts. This is a resource that players will need to continuously grind for in the game if they’re looking to create the best builds possible.

Also, each time players unlock a skill in Achilles: Legends Untold, the pathway towards a new skill in the constellation will be available to select during the next upgrade. Each constellation of stars represents a conglomerate of skills belonging to a certain playstyle, allowing players to better focus on how they wish to upgrade Achilles. Additionally, players should also keep track of what gear they upgrade in Achilles: Legends Untold so that they match their skills to support their equipment.

Frankly, one of the best skills that players can get first in Achilles: Legends Untold is called Control. With the Control skill active, players can fling their shield at enemies from a distance. Since this is the only way that Achilles will have a ranged weapon early on in the game, it’s a great skill for players to invest in.

In addition to that, because of the low-level armor and weapons that players have early on, the Soul Drain skill is another fantastic option because it simultaneously heals and damages opponents. Soul Drain does have to be used on unsuspecting enemies, however, making it a more useful skill for the best stealth builds in the game.

Here’s the bottom line—at the very least, players should unlock Soul Drain for the sake of being able to select Cold Blood next, which allows them to make use of the game’s parry system. Afterward, the next best skill really depends on how players want to perform in Achilles: Legends Untold.

If they’re looking for a more tanky playstyle, then the Crushing Blow skill is the way to go for an attack that can go through shields. Alternatively, the Initiation skill allows for a sprint attack that is perfect for a lightweight speed build.

We hope these tips will help you survive longer in this sometimes grueling game.
