Power Testing

 

This is a brief explanation on the infamous paper clip test that our tech support personnel will ask you to perform if your system doesn’t respond when attempting to power on or if your system powers on for a few seconds before shutting off. Please proceed with caution.
 


1)  Please disconnect the power cord that is connected to your wall outlet or surge protector from the power supply and make sure the power switch on the power supply (usually found on the back of the power supply) is set to O or off (depressed).
 


2)  Get a paper clip and untangle it so you have two ends.

3)  Insert one end of the paper clip into the green wire of the 20/24 pin connector from the power supply and the other end into the black wire of the 20/24 pin connector (see picture).

4)  Once the paper clip has been set, plug in the power cord into the power supply and hit the power supply switch to the I or on position. The power supply fan should be spinning, and it should not power off until power switch is switched to the off position again.
