We set up a customer with a new computer.  She asked us to transfer all her documents/info across to the new one.  At the same time she wanted the old computer cleaned up for her sister.  This all needed to be done within a day.

Here's the dilemma...We neglected to ask what she used for email.  We find out after it's all done she uses Outlook Express 6 on  Windows XP Professional x64 Edition and all her clients names & addresses were in there....no back up ever made.

Her whole business is internet based and without her email list she's really pissed at us....:>(

We didn't use any special software to completely wipe it clean.  performed an fdisk.

What can be done to retrieve the old data? Many thanks in advance for any and all help given.

After doing a Google search, this link may help you:

http://www.powerdatarecovery.com/free-file-recovery-software/how-to-recover-data-after-fdisk.html

Software download link is on that page as well as instructions on how to recover.

As you have probably discovered by now, this is a toughie.  Your best bet is using a fornesic data recovery progam to attemp to locate and recover all or, at the least, part of the data.  If you want to try yourself, look at: [email protected] File Recovery, [email protected] Partition Recovery, and/or [email protected] Undelete(by Lsoft at lsoft.net). Another program you could try is Back2Life (by Grandutils at grandutils.com).

If you are successfully in recovering all or part of the raw data, you would then use something like OE-Mail Recovery (Recovery Toolbox at http://www.oemailrecovery.com/outlook-express-recovery.html ) to rebuild the data so that Outlook Express could access it.

I do this kind of work all the time and there are numerous other forensic tools available for shareware to expensive.
