In League of Legends, one good characteristic that makes a good support is durability. This is the reason why most support players choose a strength-type champion with good AoE or buff skills to ensure their team\u2019s survivability. These champions take the role of tank support. They are capable of receiving tons of damage, making them capable of initiating clashes. <\/span><\/p>\n

Here are five of the best tank support champions you can play in League of Legends:<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/i>The Great Steam Golem has always been one of the favorite supports used in a ranked match. This utility-based champion can start the game with an easy kill with his Rocket Grab, pulling an enemy into the tower range, allowing the tower to hit the enemy unit before finishing the kill with a few basic attacks.<\/span><\/p>\n

Due to his skill sets, he is often used as a support in the bot lane along with the marksman or ADR champion. And since Blitzcrank is designed as a top laner, his damage is higher compared to other supports. <\/span><\/p>\n

Leona is a Solari Warrior Templar who defends Mount Targon using the Zenith Blade and Shield of Daybreak. Her skills, Zenith Blade and Shield of Daybreak, provide a potent offensive combo. Her second skill Eclipse, on the other hand, allows Leona to absorb an enormous amount of damage, making her a strong champion that can survive tons of damage.<\/span><\/p>\n

Sustain her armor by building items such as Sunfire Cape, Randuin\u2019s Omen, and Mikael\u2019s Crucible that can significantly increase her health and armor.<\/span><\/p>\n

Thresh is gifted with an incredible amount of utility, CC, and AoE, making him an adequate support. His skills, Death Sentence, Flay, and The Box, gives Thresh the ability to displace and disable enemies. Such skills are ideal for initiating team fights and securing a kill when executed correctly. His passive, Damnation, allows him to continually gain power, making him more durable and stronger as the game progresses.<\/span><\/p>\n

His second skill, Lantern, allows ally units to dash to Thresh\u2019s location and gives shield for a short period. Thresh can throw his Lantern during unexpected team fights to save an ally in danger.<\/span><\/p>\n

Alistar is the mighty warrior from the Minotaur tribes of the Great Barrier. He is a powerful tank support that can initiate team fights and protect his allies. His skill, Triumphant Roar, is a passive self-targeted heal that heals Alistar and any nearest allied champion. For starting an attack, you can use his Headbutt where he dashes to an enemy, knocking them back and stunning them for one second. Follow the attack with Pulverize to deal magic damage and knock them up again for one second.<\/span><\/p>\n

Just remember that movement speed is vital to Alistair. To utilize his movement speed, go with Boots of Mobility.<\/span><\/p>\n

Taric, the Shield of Valoran, is now known as the Protector who stands against the insidious corruption of the Void. His skills, Starlight’s Touch and Cosmic Radiance, are AoE spells designed to buff his allies. Using these skills, you can simultaneously protect and heal your team during clashes. You can also use Taric\u2019s Dazzle to deal damage and stun enemies, a skill that you can use to initiate an attack or disrupt an enemy champion from starting a team fight.<\/p>\n

Use Cosmic Radiance to protect the team\u2019s initiator, while making sure to heal allies with Starlight\u2019s Touch.<\/span><\/p>\n
