Although these games are almost identical in the early stages to the original versions barring better graphics and the Generation 3 features, some additional content has been added.

The Sevii Islands

One of the biggest additions to FireRed and LeafGreen from the original games are the Sevii Islands. Players are taken to the first three islands, One, Two, and Three Islands, after they defeat the Cinnabar Gym and Blaine. One Island is directly part of the storyline and players need to ascend Mt. Ember to grab the Ruby for Celio. Another major difference from the original games is that Moltres resides in Mt. Ember as compared to Victory Road. Two Island doesn’t contain too much, while Three Island contains Berry Forest where different types of berries drop for the player to pick up. It is one of the few places in the game where players are able to repeatedly get berries. The other islands, Four through Seven, can be accessed after getting the Rainbow Pass from Celio. The only notable feature of Four Island is Icefall Cave where Team Rocket and Ice Pokémon are waiting. Five, Six, and Seven Island contain a variety of locations, with Five Island being the hideout of Team Rocket where players have to travel to defeat the last few Rocket Admins after Giovanni’s disappearance.

Pokémon League Rematches

Just like with Sapphire, Ruby, and Emerald, the other Generation 3 games feature Elite Four rematches after defeating them for the first time and helping Celio fix his Network Machine on the Sevii Islands. The Pokémon League trainers have added several Hoenn Pokemon to their lineup, and several have learned moves to compensate for their weaknesses, so be sure to watch out. Champion Blue in particular, has a wide variety of Pokémon that covers all move types.

Photo Credit: Nintendo Our trip down memory lane ends with the final games of Generation 3, FireRed and LeafGreen, the remakes of the original Red and Blue version for a mini nostalgia-inception.
