Hey, check this out! It's a Veterans Day sale at newegg and the 300GB Raptor is $199.99 with free shipping. http://promotions.newegg.com/NEemail/Nov-0-2009/Game10/index-landing.html?nm_mc=EMC-IGNEFL111009&cm_mmc=EMC-IGNEFL111009-_-email-_-E0C-_-HardDrives&cm_lm=dustyw1979@netzero.com&spt=0#IT. And I would save your money instead of getting a sound card. I'd say 7.1 onboard is good enough. Maybe use that money to get another video card. Check out the ones on sale at newegg.com on this same ad.

yea before you posted about the sale on the hard drive i had already went out and pick up another 7200rpm 500gb HD. I've done some research and checked on afew benchmark score and the difference between a RAID0 and the velociraptor looks like the raptor might be only a 2-3 second improvement on load and boot-up times, which quicker load times is always a plus (if your there before the other guy can only be better), but i really dont see a $200 dollar improvment for 2-3 seconds. I am however going to take the money i saved (by only paying $60 for 500gb HD) and get an additional 9800gt 1gb geforce video card and hook em SLI, which for most programs/games (emphasis on most because some do not like SLI) i should see a marked improvedment in crispness and overall FPS increase (although right now i am running WOW [not a very taxing game i know] on ultra without v-sync at around 100-120 fps). I will post the results after I setup my RAID0 and then again after i hook up the other video card. If this works out i will have a very nice speedy and stable system for a very inexpensive price.

ok i believe for now i have opted out of the RAID setup for a couple reasons 1. im not 100% sure on how to do it
2. ive talked to a few people and was told that little improvement would be achieved, and with the chance of hardware failure almost doubling (which all my data would be lost unless i backed up pretty often, which would require either yet another HD or risk losing all data) it is now seeming the velociraptor 10k rpm drive is a much more viable option. From what i have read and learned using the 1 10k drive should be more reliable and about 2-4 seconds faster on load time because 1 drive should be more responsive vs 2 drive (even though they are writing half the info) so i am just gonna throw in another 9800gt 1gb video card, and save up for the 10k drive or get it on sale as loyal has posted. For now my system will run crysis, crysis: warhead, and multiplayer flawlessly, so not in a big rush to upgrade. Will keep posted on the bench scores.
